Painting the Roses Red
This doll was made for CNYDAG’s 2007 challenge, in which participants could make a doll out of black, white, and one other color only.
Three favorite literary characters immediately came to mind: Two, Five and Seven, those obsequious landscapers from the queen’s croquet ground in
Alice’s Adventures Underground
.
The head, hands and feet are sculpted from Fimo and Sculpey. The doll’s eyes are onyx and hair is marabou. Shoes are leather. He’s built on a poseable wire and wood armature with a felted body made of Romney roving, covered in stretch fabric. The card is made of paisley quilting fabric, satin
and beaded embellisments.
